Dr. Colleen Yard

Dr. Yard was born and raised in North Texas, but moved to Central Texas as soon as she could! From a young age, she loved helping take care of others, which led her to consider a career in healthcare. While an undergraduate at Washington University in St. Louis, she sought out opportunities to experience the world of medicine. What started as volunteering in the emergency room eventually led her to a part time job as a technician in an ophthalmology office. While working there, she was fascinated by how much ocular pathology overlapped with various general medical conditions. Most importantly, she was moved by how much of an impact one could make on a patient’s life by improving vision.
After graduating from Washington University Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Biology and Spanish, she returned home to Texas where she earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Medical Center at Houston. Learning medicine within the largest medical center in the world was so stimulating that she chose to stay in Houston for ophthalmology residency. She completed her residency at The Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at The University of Texas at Houston. She then made the move to Central Texas, where she delights in caring for the people of Williamson County and beyond. Dr. Yard values the physician-patient relationship and takes time to discuss each patient’s diagnoses and proposed treatments. Her practice includes the evaluation of cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and glaucoma.
Dr. Yard has published articles in noteworthy ophthalmic journals, and given presentations at several national research meetings. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Austin Ophthalmology Society. She was also recently named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor. Additionally, Dr. Yard is fluent in Spanish. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, reading, and traveling with her husband. She looks forward to taking care of the eye care needs of you and your loved ones.
