Dr. Karl Andersen

Dr. Karl M. Andersen is a cataract refractive and cornea specialist. After his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University, he attended Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. His ophthalmology residency was completed at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, followed by extensive fellowship training in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
His passion lies in the front of the eye from refractive procedures to corneal transplantation and cataract surgery. He can offer patients broad surgical options as needed including full-thickness and partial-thickness corneal transplantation, ocular surface tumor biopsy or removal, pterygium excision, cataract surgery, LASIK and ICL (implantable collamer lens). In addition to subspeciality services, he is trained to provide comprehensive eye exams and care for common surgical and medical eye problems. He also offers fluency in medical Spanish.
In addition to significant clinical and surgical demands during training, he completed research projects on donor cornea storage temperature, pediatric corneal transplant outcomes and visual outcomes in endothelial keratoplasty. He has also collaborated on novel retinal imaging research projects involving Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Ophthalmoscopy (FLIO) at the Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City. His hobbies include traveling, enjoying the outdoors, spending time with family and trying new restaurants.
